ZivaNala ZimPhos Project

Background

ZimPhos

ZimPhos (Zimbabwe Phosphates Industries) is a leading fertilizer and industrial chemicals manufacturing company in Zimbabwe. Established in the 1950s, it was originally part of a larger phosphate mining and processing industry aimed at supporting agricultural productivity in the region. The company was initially developed to exploit Zimbabwe’s phosphate deposits, primarily from the Dorowa Mine in Buhera, which supplies raw phosphate rock for fertilizer production.

Over the years, ZimPhos became a key player in producing phosphate-based fertilizers, such as Single Super Phosphate (SSP), which are critical for Zimbabwe’s farming sector. During the 1980s and 1990s, ZimPhos operated under the Zimbabwe Fertilizer Company (ZFC) before restructuring and has remained a vital contributor to Zimbabwe’s agricultural industry. Today, ZimPhos operates under the Chemplex Corporation, a subsidiary of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of Zimbabwe, and continues to supply fertilizers and industrial chemicals to support local and regional agriculture.
